Attorney Information
Overview
William Tock is excited to join the firm in Putnam County after practicing law for 7 years in New York City. Like Joe, William previously served as an Assistant District Attorney in Bronx County- with the Narcotics & Gangs Investigations Bureau. While there he handled criminal matters from arraignment through trial, specializing in drug-related offenses. This experience gave him considerable insight into the criminal justice system which allows him to empathize with our clients as he guides them thru what is often a daunting period of their lives. His goal is to make navigating and understanding the court system easier and less intimidating for his clients! He also worked at a large private firm in Manhattan in the field of civil litigation where he handled healthcare matters defending doctors, nurses, and hospitals. This experience will be invaluable for William in representing personal injury clients, as he understands the insurance industry inside and out and has handled hundreds of civil depositions for his clients.
He is a graduate of both Gettysburg College and New York Law School, and received the Helen & Andrew Dokas Memorial Award for Excellent Achievement in law school upon graduation. When he is not representing clients in the courtroom William enjoys reading, playing volleyball, hiking in the Hudson Valley, and exploring new restaurants in New York City.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
