Verified ClientHired Attorney Eric C. Nordby 2010-2018Attorney Eric Norby was involved with my medical malpractice suit, along with Attorney Michael Porter. Complications from surgery, left me a quadruple amputee. (Had all my limbs prior to surgery) From my first visit they were compassionate , caring and concerned about the difficulties that had completely changed my life as it was prior to surgery. Calls between Eric & Mike they asked how I was doing. Eric was always up front with me & didn't suger coat anything, which was what I asked of them when they were hired. Eric was with me at my first ever deposition and he gave me words of confidence that made me feel less stressed. When the deposition was over Eric's words of praise I had done well was like a weight lifted off my shoulders. Eric was always professional, making me feel like I deserved a settlement. The large settlement speaks for it self.

Verified ClientHired Attorney Michael S. Porter 2010-2018Mike was extremely thorough in managing my case. Very understanding of my extremely traumatic injuries making it easy for me to talk to him as we went thru the process of putting a case together to go to court. I feel he went above and beyond which ended in the best results. My injuries will not get any better but thanks to Mike and others my life will be better due to the settlement which was more than I could have ever hoped. Many thanks to Attorney Michael Porter. Verified ClientHired Attorney Eric C. Nordby 2017-2018The attorneys and staff of Porter Nordby Howe LLP were outstanding in the handling of my case. I was a pedestrian who was struck by a food truck while volunteering at a community event. From the initial telephone call that I made to the firm, to the conclusion of the process, I was impressed with the professionalism of the personnel I dealt with at the law firm. I was also impressed with their concern for my health and the continual communication they provided regarding the case throughout the process. All of my medical bills were covered and the lawsuit was settled with an unexpectedly large financial settlement. I have nothing but good things to say about this firm and the service they provided.

Verified ClientHired Attorney Michael S. Porter 2015-2018Porter Nordby Howe LLP is a great firm, and I highly recommend it. My family and I worked with Mike and Eric, and they were very professional. Even though English is not our first language, they did their absolute best to help us understand and were there for us every step of the entire process. When other lawyers told us that we did not have a case, this firm did say we had a case to fight. Through their determination, they won the case for us! My family and I are extremely grateful for all the hard work they put into our case, especially as we were going through such a hard moment in our lives. The result means so much to us, and if we ever needed a lawyer again, we would not hesitate to reach out to this firm.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
