Hired Attorney 2024-2025Hired this lawyer paid 7500 said he could take the case involved another lawyer to help him have to dig up her name long story short never communicated with us always had to call them for a update which was some excuse as to why he hasn’t looked at the case he continued giving us fake deadlines where he would be able to give us a real update. Well about 2 years later of chasing this lawyer for him to finally say he can’t do anything with the case lol he never even sat down or went to go visit my incarcerated loved one I hired him for. Had one or two short pointless phone calls with him in the two years and that’s it. Even told me one time I called that he had priority cases that keeps coming before altho he didn’t express he had to much on his plate when he pushed for me to pay the 7500. Complete scam! To this day I still have no clue what my 7500 was spent on. This was a post conviction case we hired him for and he did absolutly nothing Matt didn’t even know anything about the case everytime I called for a update had us ship him everything for nothing as well and have yet to recieve those items back either ! I felt he should have had a consultation to see if he could even do the case before having me pay 7500 for nothing ! Money down the drain ! Terrible very devastating experience and I most certainly did not have 7500 to just give away !

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
