My Story

Cody Boykin Moss is a lifelong resident of North Carolina and a proud graduate of East Carolina University, where he earned a college degree in Criminal Justice, cum laude. He went on to pursue his passion for the law and obtained his Juris Doctorate degree from North Carolina Central University School of Law.

During his time in law school, Cody gained invaluable experience through a variety of internships, including positions at the US Department of Justice, the United States Attorney's Office, the Pitt County District Attorney's Office, and several small private defense firms. With his newly acquired knowledge and skills, Cody started his legal career in private practice, focusing on Family and Traffic Law.

With years of experience in the field, Cody brings a unique perspective to his clients, having worked on both the prosecution and defense sides. He leverages his extensive knowledge of the law and his professional relationships to achieve the best possible outcomes for his clients. Cody prioritizes his clients' best interests and is dedicated to researching, arguing, and defending their cases with unwavering tenacity.

When he's not practicing law, Cody can be found enjoying his hobbies, including hockey, boating, and spending time with his family at the coast. He is an avid car enthusiast and a huge fan of John Deere Tractors. Cody is also an active member of his community, volunteering as a Judge for the Teen Court program and participating in the Pro-Bono Law Clinic at NCCU School of Law. At home, Cody spends quality time with his husband, Brandon, and their beloved Frenchie (French Bulldog), Izzy.

Cody was, without question, the best experience I could have asked for during one of the hardest times of my life. From the very first moment he took my case, I knew I was in the best hands. Before finding Cody, I went through two different divorce lawyers who took my money and then stopped caring. I felt like just another number—one of thousands of clients. With Cody, it was the complete opposite. He genuinely cared about me, my situation, and my future. I always felt like he was personally invested and truly fighting for what was best for me. I actually found Cody by accident through another lawyer, who told me he had seen Cody fight in court for his clients like no one else. That recommendation could not have been more accurate. Cody stood by me, protected me, and guided me every step of the way. He “held my hand” from beginning to end, and not once did I question his decisions or his dedication. I never worried—not for a single moment—because I knew he had my back. He and his entire team treated me with such care and respect that I honestly felt like a VIP, with the very best lawyer representing me. I am truly grateful to Cody and everyone who works with him. If you need a divorce attorney who will fight for you, care about you, and stand by you until the very end, I cannot recommend Cody highly enough.

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
