In private practice, she handles some pro bono appellate work for the GAL program. My younger son struggles with mental health issues and is on the Autism spectrum. In 9th grade, he refused to attend school and failed his freshman year of high school. His mom and I had been divorced since he was 4 and live in separate states about 750 miles apart. The summer in between 9th and 10th grade, I was able to work out a plan with the school system in NC to allow him to take summer school remotely while he was spending his summer with me. He returned to NC as a sophomore, but again the school refusal surfaced. In the interim, I had reached out to Heather and her team at Raleigh Divorce Law Firm. Over the subsequent 8 months, they worked tirelessly on my behalf to obtain primary custody of my son. While his struggles continued, I remained in active contact with the school counselors, his doctors, Heather and her team, and of course, my son. Eventually, the case was resolved just prior to our scheduled court date and without any further action taken by the state. Fast-forward 2.5 years, and my son has just recently graduated high school on time. What seemed so unlikely when I began the custody transfer process became a reality. No one knows what the future will bring, but I can say that because of the quality of representation and the fierce devotion to advocating for my son that RDLF displayed, he has the opportunity to go to college and to build the life he wants for himself. I cannot thank Heather and her team enough. They literally helped work a miracle! Dominick F.

Heather and her experienced team were the abosolute best people to have in my corner during my extremely difficult and complicated divorce. Throughout this process I needed for things to be explained in detail and there were several times where I just needed to be calmed down. Heather and her team stepped up and talked me off of the ledge each and every time with nothing but care and kindness. Having a knowledgeable, experienced and down right "don't take no BS" team fighting FOR me is something that gave me peace, strength and a sense of calm/comfort. Having Heather and her team on my side and defending me is something that I'll never forget. Finding a lawyer for my divorce was one of the hardest decisions to make during a very emotional time. Deciding to have Heather represent me is something that I'll never regret and one of the best decisions that I made during this process. Her and her team always put what was best for me first and fought for me in each and every situation.

If you find yourself in need of an exceptional lawyer who can deal with a high conflict divorce, custody, child support among other family law matters, then your search is over. I truly believe I was led to Heather and the Raleigh Divorce Law Firm team by divine intervention. My case is labeled as a very high conflict case and I do believe that is an understatement. When I walked through those doors at Raleigh Divorce Law Firm for the very first time, I was terrified. I had lost everything I believed in and now, the person I loved more than myself was trying to take my children and, what felt like, my last breath. Heather truly listened to me and treated me like someone who really mattered. In that moment, I only began to learn the magnitude of the expertise she possesses and immediately knew I wanted her to be the advocate for not only my interests but also those of, my most precious possessions, my children. Heather and her entire staff took on my case and have successfully fought with brilliant tenacity. I was not only blessed by Heather’s competency and proficiency, but Heather was an integral piece in my personal reformation. She brought light and strength to a shattered soul which has allowed me to be the light and strength that my children now need. The only regret I have is that I had not contacted Heather and her entire team at the onset of the separation. Don’t make my mistake; don’t wait set up your consultation right now.

Ms. Forshey is extremely professional, has a breadth of knowledge within her field, is approachable, and gives her clients the time they need to express concerns and discuss scenarios, issues, etc. I will always remember our first meeting...she listened! She allowed me to explain my situation, what I desired, and the reasons for my coming to her. With other consults I left without my questions answered and without a plan. I simply left with homework. Ms. Forshey discussed approaches after telling her what I was looking for; these options directly aligned with my desired approach. This continued throughout our working together and I was able to have a fairly peaceful divorce, which seems like a rarity in this day and age. I would recommend her highly for dissolution of marriage, assets, and child support/custody agreements.

I feel very fortunate to have been referred to Heather Forshey when I was surprised with a sudden need for an attorney to handle separation, child custody, and support. Mine was a very complicated and lengthy challenge and Heather, Lauren, Diane, Chaston, and Terri were always there for me. Heather, as well as everyone else in the practice, are not only professional and knowledgeable, but compassionate. I never once felt uncomfortable with the advice and legal support I received, and I never once felt alone during what was one of the hardest periods of my life. Emails and calls were promptly returned. Paperwork was forwarded in a timely manner. Every question, no matter how many or how often, was answered quickly and with warmth. Heather puts so much of herself into her work that I truly felt like I was her only client! And in the end, my kids and I came out of it all with the best one can hope for in such a heart-wrenching ordeal as this - a safe, stable, livable agreement I believe we would not have gotten if I'd chosen a different practice.

My case had a favorable outcome with Heather Forshey. I came to RDLF after having an awful experience with another attorney who was NOT advocating on my behalf. I was emotionally exhausted in the midst of an extremely high conflict custody case & had seen no movement in my case in 7-8 months. In our first meeting, Heather was succinct & took on my high conflict mess of a case only a couple of weeks before my next court date. She immediately began to tighten the reins on a case that had been completely out of control. While I was hoping for a better experience, her fierce nature as a client advocate was completely unexpected, considering my previous experience. It was the first time I felt like I actually had someone advocating for my children & I. Not only was she in the battle, but she was fighting with the same amount of passion and commitment I had for my children. I could go on forever with the countless times she and her staff completely turned around skewed situations in my favor (and there were MANY). I was not able to make any progress with financial matters of child support prior, but she was able to double the child support I'd been receiving. Heather accomplished more in the first 30 days of taking my case, then I'd seen in 8 months. Beyond her laser focus on the bottom line in the best interest of her clients, she was also able to provide prudent advice at a time when my emotions were running high. She kept a level head & provided much needed encouragement as I was going through the process. She deployed effective strategies to ensure my case was always in the best position possible. The other side conceded, literally within 24 hrs of court, but I attribute that to the fact that Heather is a force to be reckoned with & I don't think the opposing side wanted to face her in court. I received 99% of my demands via settlement & Heather exceeded every professional expectation. In the heat of battle, Heather is the one you want fighting on your behalf.

Heather Forshey helped me to get to a successful Separation Agreement. She is calm and moderate, but is fully knowledgeable and provides great advice. These matters can be stressful, and she was always a calming influence, especially in the heat of negotiations. Her team in Raleigh Divorce Law Firm are very helpful and provide clear communication on the costs of services. I had selected RDLF just by looking at attorneys web sites and am glad I made that choice. I strongly recommend Heather Forshey and Raleigh Divorce Law Firm.

I would like to thank Heather Williams and her staff at the Raleigh Divorce Law Firm for their tremendous efforts on my case. I was impressed with her knowledge, professionalism, passion and creative insights for her craft. I have used other lawyers in the past; however I have to say she is a winner. I was welcomed with very genuine personalities from all of the staff and everyone was very cordial. During the course of my ordeal they promptly returned phone calls and/or emails and gave me the best representation I have ever had. Thank You, Kenneth R. Thorpe

In the unfortunate situation of divorce, I highly recommend Heather Forshey as a strong family law attorney. She is not only very knowledgable about family law, she is also very concerned with your personal situation and is always available for questions and guidance. No one wants to go through the process of divorce, but having a strong advocate on your side makes the situation easier. Heather will always take the time to understand your case on a personal level and will act accordingly. Every member of her firm acts in this manner as well. I could not recommend Heather and her firm more.

Divorce, court, custody and child support are never easy on anyone however Heather and her professional staff at Raleigh Divorce Law Firm mad sure that I was not impacted by the stress that all of this carries. I believe their knowledge of the Law is what seperates them from other firms in the area! Heather and her staff worked on my case as if I was their only case, always making me feel comfortable with the process and making sure I had an understanding of what was taking place. I never felt as if I was just another body and all they wante to do was cash the check, they made me aware and in the process I became more knowledgable of family law. I always felt being a man I wouldn't receive a fair shake but my experience with Heather and her staff has changed my outlook and the result were way above what I expected.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
