My younger son struggles with mental health issues and is on the Autism spectrum. In 9th grade, he refused to attend school and failed his freshman year of high school. His mom and I had been divorced since he was 4 and live in separate states about 750 miles apart. The summer in between 9th and 10th grade, I was able to work out a plan with the school system in NC to allow him to take summer school remotely while he was spending his summer with me. He returned to NC as a sophomore, but again the school refusal surfaced. In the interim, I had reached out to Heather and her team at Raleigh Divorce Law Firm. Over the subsequent 8 months, they worked tirelessly on my behalf to obtain primary custody of my son. While his struggles continued, I remained in active contact with the school counselors, his doctors, Heather and her team, and of course, my son. Eventually, the case was resolved just prior to our scheduled court date and without any further action taken by the state. Fast-forward 2.5 years, and my son has just recently graduated high school on time. What seemed so unlikely when I began the custody transfer process became a reality. No one knows what the future will bring, but I can say that because of the quality of representation and the fierce devotion to advocating for my son that RDLF displayed, he has the opportunity to go to college and to build the life he wants for himself. I cannot thank Heather and her team enough. They literally helped work a miracle! Dominick F.

Heather and her experienced team were the abosolute best people to have in my corner during my extremely difficult and complicated divorce. Throughout this process I needed for things to be explained in detail and there were several times where I just needed to be calmed down. Heather and her team stepped up and talked me off of the ledge each and every time with nothing but care and kindness. Having a knowledgeable, experienced and down right "don't take no BS" team fighting FOR me is something that gave me peace, strength and a sense of calm/comfort. Having Heather and her team on my side and defending me is something that I'll never forget. Finding a lawyer for my divorce was one of the hardest decisions to make during a very emotional time. Deciding to have Heather represent me is something that I'll never regret and one of the best decisions that I made during this process. Her and her team always put what was best for me first and fought for me in each and every situation.

If you find yourself in need of an exceptional lawyer who can deal with a high conflict divorce, custody, child support among other family law matters, then your search is over. I truly believe I was led to Heather and the Raleigh Divorce Law Firm team by divine intervention. My case is labeled as a very high conflict case and I do believe that is an understatement. When I walked through those doors at Raleigh Divorce Law Firm for the very first time, I was terrified. I had lost everything I believed in and now, the person I loved more than myself was trying to take my children and, what felt like, my last breath. Heather truly listened to me and treated me like someone who really mattered. In that moment, I only began to learn the magnitude of the expertise she possesses and immediately knew I wanted her to be the advocate for not only my interests but also those of, my most precious possessions, my children. Heather and her entire staff took on my case and have successfully fought with brilliant tenacity. I was not only blessed by Heather’s competency and proficiency, but Heather was an integral piece in my personal reformation. She brought light and strength to a shattered soul which has allowed me to be the light and strength that my children now need. The only regret I have is that I had not contacted Heather and her entire team at the onset of the separation. Don’t make my mistake; don’t wait set up your consultation right now.

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
