Hired Law firm 2023THIS LAWFIRM WILL OVERCHARGE YOU IF YOU DON'T ASK FOR A DETAILED BREAKDOWN OF THEIR CHARGES ONCE THEY BILL YOU!!! This firm was a referral from a friend of mine that used Blood Law. Like most friend referrals, I would trust that if a friend had a good experience, so will I... so I thought. I realized I was getting overcharged after getting my biweekly ( 1st and the 15th you will have a bill) charges and I couldn't understand why the charges were so high. I felt in my stomach that something wasn't right, so I asked for a breakdown of the bill so I will know why they were charging me so I can get a better understanding of the bill. To my surprise, the staff were kinda annoyed because I asked to see a detailed breakdown of their charges. The accountant person didn't know nor could give me an explanation, so they have to ask the lawyers. The accountant told me people normally don't ask for a breakdown of their bill, they just pay it. I told the accountant kindly that I still want to know. When they finally got back with me, I noticed that there were charges that were errors. I asked to look at previous monthly payments I've already made and looked through those breakdowns and again, I saw more issues. At this time, I've spent over $15,000 so far and I was afraid to drop the lawfirm and find another, but things were already on the court calendar so I kept them as my representation . Once my case was finished, I took my requested detailed breakdowns to another attorney friend that retired from practicing family law and they showed me charges I was overbilled to confirm what I've already knew.. I just wanted a second opinion. I don't have the finances to take legal action, nor do I have the time or energy but I can give a WARNING and ADVICE... TO ANY NEW POTENTIAL CLIENTS, PLEASE REQUEST A FEE BREAKDOWN EACH TIME THEY BILL YOU, JUST LIKE THEIR ACCOUNTANT TOLD ME " NO ONE EVER ASK"

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
