Akron Family Law Lawyer

Overview

Archie W. Skidmore founded the Akron-based law firm and established a preeminent and distinguished reputation for decades. Akron divorce lawyer Eric E. Skidmore joined his father's firm in 1989. Eric heads the family law practice group focusing on local and regional family law matters. He negotiates and litigates complex family law cases.

Eric gained valuable experience in other practice sectors of the law firm such as real estate, banking, and commercial law which helped refine his skills, ability, and knowledge well suited for complex property division and high net worth divorce cases. Ohio generally identifies personal and real property into marital and separate components, before division. Ohioans seeking divorce are better served by an experienced family lawyer steeped in banking, real estate, and corporate tracing. This could be the difference between dividing property in half or retaining it entirely exclusive of the other spouse. Accurate valuation of business, real estate and personal property is critical to complex property division. Akron divorce lawyer Eric E. Skidmore is experienced in these areas and also networks with local and regional pension and retirement account evaluators, commercial and residential real estate appraisers, and forensic accountants and business valuators.

Eric has been recognized as one of Ohio's SuperLawyers and has been honored with inclusion as a Top Lawyer in greater Akron in the area of divorce and family law. He has been granted the "Superb" rating by AVVO legal directory.

If matrimonial matters cannot be reconciled and it is time to say "hello" to "goodbye", bring civility, morality, and professionalism to the situation by contacting Akron family law lawyer Eric E. Skidmore. He can help you, with your new beginning.

5.0 out of 5 stars

Eric and the team at Skidmore and Assoc. were wonderful in handling my divorce case. Because of Eric's knowledge and experience, he was able to devise a plan that ultimately led to me retaining custody of my children, while minimizing my spousal support payment amount and term. Eric took great care in representing me in everything my ex-wife through at us, including a CPO, Child Protective Services, and defending my character in the divorce case. You get what you pay for with Eric. I highly recommend his services.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
