Attorney Information
Overview
Adoptions are emotional, sensitive, and intensely complex matters. The process is laden with rules and laws and is a paramount life decision. I strive to provide compassion while advocating through the process. Each client and case is unique. I aspire to respectfully meet the individual needs of each client.
I am a Solo practitioner focusing on Adoption and Child Welfare Law. I was an Assistant City Prosecutor from 1993-1998, with a brief stint as a defense attorney. I was a Staff Attorney at Children Services from 1998-2004, where my responsibilities included advising and representing the Adoptions Department. I opened my law practice in 2004, and have focused solely on adoptions and child welfare cases. My clients are varied in that I represent prospective adoptive parents, expectant/birth parents, and some adoption agencies. A portion of my practice involves adoption subsidy matters.
Having my own practice has afforded me the flexibility to be available for my family, while still caring for my clients.
I travel the entire State of Ohio to represent clients.

Hired Attorney 2022-2023We had a horrible experience. I would not recommend Carie. During our adoption she submitted my son to questioning regarding his identity no longer existing, his siblings no longer being his siblings, and his mom was never his mom legally after this day. It was an extremely traumatic day needlessly. We left in tears and not the happy kind.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
