Hired Attorney 2020-2021My divorce was a rather complex matter. As during the time of my filing, was during the peak of the pandemic and I was out of country. I had previously used another firm which honestly proved to be a headache. Constant fees and a lack of information proved to be detrimental. Through pure luck I was able to find Robs firm. I looked for anything that could have been negative or derogatory and found absolutely nothing. Rob was cost efficient and always responded in a timely manner. My ex wife was served in a timely manner and given ample time to respond. I also had an issue with a child that was born in the marriage. Rob and his firm were able to coordinate the paternity test through two different states which proved to be a miracle as I work in a complete different part of the country. At times my ex wife would call my job or have friends contact me at work and attempt to coerce additional compensation for me. This is while I was still supporting her and the household. Robs firm stepped in and acted as a mediator for myself. The harassment stopped and things were able to move on smoothly. Lastly and most importantly I can not forget the awesome staff that Rob has. They are intelligent, kind, and wise. They work tirelessly and always available. There was never a point I did not receive a follow up phone call or email while using the services of Robs firm. This includes the times I was in multiple countries and different areas of the country. I am forever grateful to Rob and his staff for helping me get my life back. I highly recommend to anyone considering.

Hired Attorney 2018-2019My daughter had a mental break and has 3 precious children who mean the world to her. After the break and her doing all the work to get better. I contacted Rob and he is professional, honest and his clients matter he works hard to keep family together which is a top priority for him. He has went above and beyond for my daughter and her children. He is always available for us if we need him for any reason his clients matters. He is confident and respectful to all parties involved but his best interest is for his client. I honestly don’t know where we would be if I did not find him. He is worth your money. His staff goes above and beyond Heather is our contact person and she always keeps us informed on all the updates in our cases. This has been a complicated case because there is two different parties involved with the children. I can tell you he is dedicated to all the children and my daughter. I would recommend if you need a child custody lawyer this is the man to call. Bottom line he cares for his client and his work shows it. During this process I had to move out of state to take care of my ill uncle and I felt like I was still in Ohio because Rob and his staff kept me informed every step along the way with both cases. Thank you Rob Abney and staff from the bottom of by heart for keeping my daughter and children together. Please contact this man if you want your rights back with your children.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
