Verified ClientHired Attorney 2023I can’t say enough about the professionalism, compassion, and knowledge of Ed Ahlers. I became disabled and unable to work a job I loved, and worked at for more than 30 years. I needed someone to help me with the complicated process of an SSDI claim. I researched several attorneys but Mr. Ahlers stood out from the crowd. His reviews are 5 star and what his previous clients had to say about their interactions with Mr. Ahlers gave me hope that he could help me. Ed worked diligently on my case and kept me informed at all times. If you are in need of assistance with a disability claim, call Ed Ahlers, he is an excellent attorney.

Verified ClientHired Attorney 2022Finding out that I would have to permanently leave the workforce due to my disability was one of the hardest things I had to go through in my life. I was one of the few people that truly loved what they did for a living. So, I was very fortunate to find Ed Ahlers to handle my disability claim. I was referred to Ed Ahlers by another attorney that I knew who was very familiar with disability law. She said if she ever personally needed a disability attorney, she would only use Ed Ahlers. She then followed up by saying that he was one of the smartest people she knows. As it turns out, she was correct, and this was an excellent referral! From my first visit with Ed Ahlers, he was very generous with his time, easy to talk to and was very knowledgeable with the whole disability process. I realized that I was in great hands. As the claim progressed through all the phases, he was extremely thorough and detail oriented. He always spent the time to talk with me and he emailed me regularly with updates on my claim. I also worked closely with Barb, his paralegal who was amazing! She was very patient with all my questions and timely with responses in following up. Not only was my disability claim approved on the first try, but Ed Ahlers has helped understand what to expect after the approval. He has answered all the questions that I had and given me a lot of great suggestions as well. If you are considering making a disability claim, I highly advise that you don't do it alone and I highly recommend Ed Ahlers. He should be your only call!

Verified ClientHired Attorney 2021-2022I wholeheartedly endorse Mr. Ahlers. I was lucky to be referred to Ed by friends and am so glad I followed their advice. Ed took the time to learn the specifics of my SSDI case himself rather than relying on an assistant to relay the facts. As someone who formerly worked with attorneys, I was pleasantly surprised to have this one-on-one interaction with him. Throughout the case, Ed was always my point of contact and did a great job keeping me informed of where we were in the process. Mine was not an open and shut case due to some unusual circumstances. Other attorneys would have shied away from helping me but Ed took on the challenge and won a decision in my favor. Thanks to Ed I am financially secure again.

Verified ClientHired Attorney 2021-2022Wonderful job. Ed Ahlers handled my disability claim after I was denied twice. Mr. Ahlers is extremely detailed, thorough and professional. The amount of time he spent working on my claim was extensive yet he was always quick to respond/answer all of my emails and calls. I could not have asked for a harder working advocate. Ed made what is surely a difficult and often disheartening experience much less stressful for me. I was extremely nervous about my hearing and worried about the outcome. Ed spent several hours going through every detail and preparing me for the hearing process. After being awarded SSDI, the back-pay that I am owed is being held up for some reason. Mr Ahler’s job is complete, he won my case/claim yet he continues working and making the necessary calls on my behalf to expedite the funds that are still owed to me. I highly recommend Mr Ahlers, he is worth so much more than the percentage designated.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
