    Consulted Law firm 2025
Michael W. DeWitt/DeWitt Law, LLC agreed to take my case, but then ghosted me and I never heard from him again. Anyone considering using him as your attorney please think twice. He has no problem wasting your time, lying to you, shaking your hand and then ghosting you. I should’ve known something was up by the way he looked disheveled, homeless and his shoes were incredibly dirty. Nothing about him looked like a professional attorney that was meeting with a client. We first initially spoke over the phone where I explained my situation. Michael Dewitt then scheduled an in person meeting for us. I went all the way down to his office where he agreed to take the case and said I should hear from him by the end of the week with a copy of the demand letter he’ll send to my former employer plus his attorney fees. When I didn’t hear from him, I sent a follow up email, that he completely ignored. A couple of days later I tried one last time by going to his business website through the contact form asking for an update and letting him know If things have changed and you’re no longer able to take my case anymore, will you please let me know either way? That was ignored as well. Such a liar and so unprofessional! Just know the majority of his 5 star reviews are fake!

    Hired Law firm 2023-2025
Took my case pro bono but didnt seem to spend the needed time on the case. Wasnt very focused, when I asked for advice about attending a grievance meeting he advised me to go and it backfired. Gave him strong evidence and he still didnt represent the case well. Numerous extensions without telling me. Stopped responding to calls and emails at the appeal level. I plan to inform the agency that deals with lawyer complaints, give me true online reviews, and move forward. Has a calm personality so could be a good coinselor. I would no longer recommend him as a lawyer due to the way he dodges client phonecalls and emails instead of being honest.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
