I would highly recommend Mesaros Law Office to anyone needing a divorce attorney. Mr. Mesaros worked with me throughout the entire process. He was kind and very professional. He was always willing to answer my questions and discuss possible solutions. Divorce is a stressful experience, but Mesaros Law Office helped make the process much easier.

Mr. Mesaros was to act as a GAL in our custody dispute (between myself and my ex husband, a police officer). Mr. Mesaros refused to follow the outline of his station as a GAL and did not 1) Speak to any school officials or teachers 2) Did not speak to any Medial Providers 3) Although he requested friends and family to write letters to him (he was too busy to call them or visit them on his own) he dismissed over 15 letters written by neighbors, pastors, friends and family who were in direct contact with our family over the years 4) Spent less than 1 hour with said children and each parent on his 1 visit to each home interviewing 2 of the children in group and less than 20 min each and did not observe the children with the mother other than the 1 minute they entered the home after arriving home from the fathers (where they had just had their weekend visitation) 5) Did not meet with other relevant individuals who may have relevant knowledge regarding the issues of the case, other than the step mother, 6)was dismissive of the family counseling report issued by a board certified professional (whom he mocked at the hearing openly with the judge). He acted in favor toward the father, a police officer, from the beginning and throughout the hearing. This was not a abuse case or a case with Children's Services, it was a custody case between 2 parents. He should never be permitted to be involved on behalf of the state as GAL for any child. Families should mean more.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
