Hired Attorney 2017-2020David took over my divorce case after i made a mistake hiring a law firm out of Cleveland. After that law firms advice got me 2 weekends in jail i decided to look for a local lawyer. Spike & Meckler came up high on the list with Dave's name at the top. It took Dave two weeks to correct some major mistakes made by the first firm. He then set the ball in motion for me to get to see my two sons. My wife had made it so i could not contact them and Dave corrected this. He has been very attentive to the fact that i am not a lawyer. He takes the time to make sure i understand what he needs to do and then does it in a very timely fashion. The other thing that i noticed was his billing practices. I have had many calls with Dave, many court dates he has been very reasonable with his billing. It is my opinion that anyone would be lucky to have him as a lawyer

Hired Attorney 2019-2020Attorney David Berta TRULY was a blessing to myself and my family today...and throughout a lengthy and tumultuous custody battle. Our lives have improved and hope has been restored that TRUE justice exists by crossing paths with this brilliant and VERY personable man. During initial consult with Attorney Berta, I right away, felt comfortable in his presence and JUST KNEW he believed in me and would put forth the fight I needed to succeed. Anytime we had contact..communicating with him was like I was voicing concerns to family..someone who cared..not just my attorney. If you want a positive result to your worries, bundled with the mind of a genius, who is also honest and affordable.. Attorney David Berta IS YOUR MAN. 100%

Hired Attorney 2018-2019Mr. Berta was representing my exhusband and as he approached me in the lobby, I went to introduce myself and he verbally attacked me because I researched him. He advised me that I was going to need LOTS of counseling after he was done with me!!! Wow!! He doesn't know anything about me other than the things he heard from my ex, which is why he's my ex.!! If you hire him, tread lightly since he's known for his temper as well!!

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
