    Hired Law firm 2022
Used this firm to help me with an eviction notice. When I went back to get my original paperwork and all the ‘before’ and ‘after’ pictures that I had taken to prove the condition that my renter had let the house and surrounding property fall into, I found that ALL MY ORIGINALS HAD BEEN SHREDDED. She had scanned the pictures into her computer, but without even asking me if I wanted them back, she destroyed them. She told me that there was a ‘miscommunication ‘. I told her there had been NO communication, and that she destroyed my property without my permission. She said it’s what they do to thin out their files, especially in an eviction situation. They had only had my pictures since May. She printed all the pictures that she had scanned onto regular paper for me; some of them are so dark that I’m not sure what it’s a picture of. I am so frustrated with them for destroying property without even giving me a chance to go get it. If you have trusted this law firm with any of your property, especially if it’s shreddable, you had better call them, see if it’s been destroyed, and if it hasn’t, get in there and get it back!

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
