Hired Attorney 2018-2019Ken Cahill is a very aggressive in court. He was a very organized, prepared, and very experienced in his field of law. He takes great pride in his work, tells it like it is, and maintains complete professionalism while doing so. I felt more confident In my case with him representing me. Thank you Ken for everything!

Hired Attorney 2015-2016At initial consult, Ken seemed to know the rules and players of Lake County family court very well. He was articulate and appeared studious in listening and trying to understand what was important to me. I hired him and paid a large retainer for what should have been a simple divorce. Over the course of negotiating, I stuck with what was important relating to the custody and support of my children. Opposing counsel was extremely aggressive and Ken became less and less responsive. After he claimed he would be filing paperwork with the court leading up to what was to be a final decree, he did not reply for an extended period of time. When I arrived at court to sign the documents, I found that the documents that Ken had drafted had been replaced in whole by documents drafted by opposing counsel. I was given a brief time to review before the hearing and missed numerous material changes from what had been previously agreed to, reducing my rights and increasing my costs. Ken did a bad job on my case.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
