This review is for Benjamin Nielsen of the Idiart Law Group. After my car accident, I was referred to Ben by a reliable coworker. Now that my case is settled, I'm writing this review so that you can hire Ben as your lawyer without delay - because he is a trustworthy family man who is easy to talk to, you can ask him any question without feeling stupid, he will give you good opinions and advice as needed, he is a professional knowledgable lawyer with the negotiating and law expertise to keep medical bill amounts legitimate and low, and you won't have to worry about dealing with the confusing billing and paperwork. Ben Nielsen kept track of all the dates, and he called me anytime he needed clarification and to keep me up to date, either email or phone depending on what worked for my busy schedule. He spoke to me clearly and directly about what to expect, so I didn't need to stress about the case, I just focused on recovery and tried to be patient, but I was in excellent hands all along, he did all the difficult communication and negotiation with my insurance company and the other guy's insurance company. Unfortunately it's a dangerous road, I am so glad I would know who to refer to all my friends and family now.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
