Hired Attorney 2016-2020There's no easy guide to owning property with an easement for a roadway. The records Dean reviewed dated back to 1971. There were a myriad of documents and related materials that described all the transactions that had taken place over many years. He reviewed the convoluted documents, identified and explained the issues to consider, and recommended action to be taken. He patiently answered all my questions. He obviously maintains awareness of the important things to include in an easement agreement. I strongly recommend Dean Alterman.

Hired Attorney 2019I highly recommend Dean Alterman for any real estate concerns. He is one of the smartest people I have ever met. I recently completed a "for sale by owner" sale of a residential property. There were encroachment concerns and the lender denied the loan, and requested that property lines be redrawn. Dean reviewed the complaint and the survey, and within an hour had a brilliant and creative solution to the issue. His intelligence and expertise led to the solution, but I am confident it was also his grace and humility that sealed the deal. The lender did not ultimately require anything else from me, beyond Dean's one letter to them. I've been told this is unheard of in the lending realm! Dean is prompt and available, and completes work in a timely fashion. He is truly the best, and I highly recommend him without reservation.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
