Attorney Information

Overview

As the founding partner of Morris Family Law, Erin has built a distinguished career as a family law attorney, driven by empathy, strategic insight, and an unbending commitment to supporting clients and families in legal disputes. A native Oregonian, Erin was born in Newberg and raised in Portland, attending high school at St. Mary’s Academy in the heart of downtown.

Erin’s academic journey reflects her passion for justice and the complexity of the human experience. She completed undergraduate studies in Political Science and Middle East Foreign Policy at American University in Washington, DC, and also spent time at University College Dublin in Ireland, where she studied European Foreign Policy and early Irish legal systems. Erin graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of San Francisco. She later earned her Juris Doctorate from Willamette University College of Law, solidifying her path in family law.

Before opening her own practice in 2020, Erin spent the first eight years of her career working and training alongside some of the most prominent and respected Oregon family law firms in the Portland legal community. This experience allowed her to hone her litigation skills and deepen her understanding of complex family law matters, preparing her to launch her own firm dedicated to providing compassionate and strategic representation for each of her clients and their families.

Erin comes from a family of public servants. Her father, a lifelong public school teacher and state-champion football coach, and her mother, who worked her entire career in local community colleges in Oregon, instilled in her a deep sense of community service, equity, and humanity. These values inspire Erin's dedication to helping families navigate difficult transitions with care, integrity, and deep empathy.

Married to a prominent civil rights attorney in Portland, Oregon, Erin is deeply connected to the legal community. Together, they share a commitment to advocating for justice and equity. They are raising their two young children in the same community where Erin grew up, spending their free time exploring Oregon’s mountains and coastlines. Erin’s experience as a mother informs her empathetic approach to family law, ensuring that the needs and well-being of her clients’ families are always at the forefront of her strategy.

Recognized for her exceptional skills as a trial lawyer and formidable presence in the courtroom, Erin's proficiency extends beyond the courthouse. Erin is skilled in pre-trial litigation strategies, where her innovative and thoughtful approach to resolving high-conflict cases shines. Erin's dedication to seeking amicable and effective resolutions outside of court has earned her a reputation as a problem-solver, adept at navigating the complexities of family law with a focus on preserving the integrity and well-being of the family system and promoting the long-term goals and interests of her clients.

Erin's commitment to her clients and success in the courtroom have been consistently recognized by her peers, as evidenced by her many accolades, including her recognition as an Oregon Family Law “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers Magazine for eight consecutive years (2017 - 2024).

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
