Hired Attorney 2024-2026I cannot recommend Doug McCormick and this law firm highly enough. My mother was involved in a devastating, near life-ending car accident in which the other driver was determined to be 100% at fault. My mother’s life has been forever changed because of that accident, and our family needed an attorney who understood that this was about far more than simply resolving a case. Doug McCormick was that attorney. I have worked with attorneys for the past 12 years, so I have a fairly strong sense of what good legal representation looks like. Doug stood out immediately for his professionalism, his directness, his respect, and the fact that he was good to his word in every way. Most importantly, he treated my mother like a person rather than simply a client or a case number. There were times when Doug checked in with her simply to ask how she was doing - not to discuss the case, not because he needed anything from her, but because he genuinely wanted to know how she was doing. That meant an enormous amount to both of us. Doug fought for my mother and ultimately secured the settlement she needed and deserved in light of how profoundly this accident has changed her life. Throughout the entire process, he communicated clearly, treated us with respect, and did exactly what he said he was going to do. After working with attorneys for more than a decade, I can say that competence is important, but character matters just as much. Doug McCormick demonstrated both. He showed compassion, integrity, professionalism, and a genuine concern for the person he represented. I would recommend Doug McCormick without hesitation to anyone who needs legal representation. If I ever have a legal matter in Erie that falls within an area Doug practices, he will be the first attorney I call without question.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
