Hired Attorney Teresa C. Marino 2018Absolutely the worst lawyer. She represented me for 6 months. I do not want to go over every issue I had with Attorney Teresa because of the anxiety it still causes me. 1. Over charged me thousands of dollars (her law firm took me to court over these issues only to have them tossed out because of how outrages the charges were.) I was charged thousands of dollars for calls that were never made to me, for court dates for her other clients, for travel expenses for those clients and more. I paid a little over 40K in 6 months. Every time I would ask about the charges she would make the conversation about my children avoiding the topic. (during that time I was easily distracted due to the extreme failures Attorney Teresa provided in court) In the end her law firm agreed to forgive thousands of dollars in fees due to the information I was able to provide 2. When I first went to Attorney Teresa I had full custody of my 3 children. 3 days until my custody hearing Attorney Teresa pulled me into her office and told me that she can not represent me in my custody hearing unless I paid the remaining balance of $3000. I was not able to and she presented me with a new custody agreement handing over custody to my ex with extremely unfavorable terms. When I said no, Attorney Teresa told me that the judge may not give me as good of terms and I should agree to these terms. Sadly I agreed to these terms. THIS IS THE SHOCKER AND THE MAIN REASON NO ONE SHOULD EVER USE ATTORNEY TERESA. 4 WEEKS AFTER SHE HAD ME SIGN THESE PAPERS ATTORNEY TERESA QUIT HER LAW FIRM TO TAKE A JOB WITH MY EX'S LAWYERS LAW FIRM. THIS WAS A DISGRACEFULL ACT AND SHE SHOULD HAVE BEEN DISBARRED FOR HER LACK OF MURALS, ETHICS, AND HER LACK OF FOLLOWING THE OATH OF A LAWYER. I WOULD NEVER USE HER, HER LAW FIRM, OR ANYONE THAT ASSOCIATES WITH HER.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
