Firm Information

Overview

The law office of Strokoff & Cowden, P.C. was formed in 1987. The firm has an impeccable reputation as a community-oriented, woman-owned firm with enough experience, personnel, and resources to serve statewide clients, yet small enough to provide individual attention. We are proud that other law firms from within and outside of Pennsylvania regularly contact us for our expertise and assistance on special matters. We are pleased to count among our clients important associations, businesses, public school administrators, licensed professionals, lawyers, judges and community leaders. However, all of our clients, from every walk of life, receive our personal and dedicated legal counsel and representation. We do not shy away from challenging cases or from litigation. We have, through the decades, represented unnumbered individuals asserting their rights and entitlements under the law, and in some cases established new legal precedents.

    Recommends this Law firm
There will never be a lawyer like Elliot Strokoff again. He mastered several areas of the law and was an exceptional trial and appellate lawyer. He won the trial of Mike McQueary v. Penn State University, drawing national acclaim and still thought of as one of the most impressive employment law victories in history. He also argued before the Supreme Court Court of PA more than any other civil lawyer of his time, demonstrating his brilliant understanding of the law. He took on virtuous causes, and not only was he incredibly successful in the courtroom, but he was highly respected by his peers for being a kind and empathetic human being.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
