She is a remarkable attorney, I had no idea what I was in for when it came to my case. She represented me in my spousal support case as well as she is also my current divorce attorney. She is patient, and fought for me as if she was the client and if this was affecting her personal life. She told me the truth and was there for me every step of the way.when I Call she usually answers if she's not in a meeting and if she is she usually calls me back that same day. I have a minor disability so I needed more explanation than possibly an average person, and again she didn't get irritated once.

I hired Donna to get a PFA for my daughter against a defendant who already pleaded guilty at the criminal court, and his probation is almost over. Donna was confident during consultation at her office. However at the court, it was clear that she was unprepared, and she lacks knowledge. She was cornered easily by the defendant’s attorney. Once she was cornered, she changed her attitude. She turned her back against her client and sided with the defense attorney. She made false accusations against her own client because of her lack of knowledge about the case and about the law itself. Out of nowhere, she lashed rude and disrespectful comments which :demean and degrade foreign culture and people with disabilities. She also dragged the case to fill in her pocket

I called repeatedly for weeks, speaking to a secretary or leaving a detailed message each time, and she didn't even know who I was or why I had left so many messages when she finally responded. Then she told me she would help me after a certain date. After weeks of diligent follow up again after this date had passed, still she says she cannot help me. Now she wants me to call back in a few months! Very unprofessional behavior. If you need your issues resolved in a timely manner, contact someone else.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
