Hired Attorney 1996-1998Andrew, this is John Leca. You represented me in a Civil Rights case and refused to follow direction I strongly suggested regarding IAD Sgt. Mikal Abdullah who you had told me you spoke with. He clearly lied, fabricated evidence, failed to collect evidence that would clear me and I am finding out that an alleged polygraph of Mr. Farmer by a "ghost" Police Sgt. Fred Smith is coming to light finally. This was the alleged polygraph test that was demanded during discovery and NEVER produced and yet NEVER pursued by you in any manner. You said you were going to have some exhibits prepared you failed. You said the trial would proceed in a manner and the judge simply said he wanted done his way and had no idea what the case was about so I was first to testify for a few days. The case was lost yet had overwhelming evidence of retaliation against me. You seemed more interested in protecting IAD Sgt. Abdullah rather than fighting for your client. I asked you and you were concerned about him a liar. I specifically turned over to you only for the purpose of the trial hundreds of Internal Affairs Documents that were MY PROPERTY and were to be RETURNED to me and I told you that. I took then out of the trash and they were abandoned and then I took legal ownership. After the case was over the City of Philadelphia obtained an order to have the DISCOVERY they turned over returned to the City of Philadelphia. That did NOT include MY PROPERTY. I have many times requested you to return MY PROPERTY the last time I spoke with you, YOU claimed they were locked up in some secure area with a company and that you would obtain and return them. You have failed and I again and telling you I want MY PROPERTY returned. You also failed to notify me that I could be responsible for legal costs if I the case was not successful. Since it was not I had to file bankruptcy and suffered that and the Police Fire Credit Union left it on my credit report for many years after it was legal to do so. I had to file a complaint with the credit reporting agencies. RETURN MY PROPERTY OR YOU ARE A LAWYER OBTAIN COPIES OF IT THROUGH LEGAL CHANNELS. It appears you have at many junctures not did your job and fought for your client. I will file this complaint with the Bar Association if necessary or deal with it though other processes.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
