After many years of emotional abuse that led to depression and physical impacts, I decided to take control of my life and end the access to the source of the pain, disrespect, and disregard that I had experienced for over 20 years by filing for divorce. Selecting an attorney is not necessarily a science. There are a lot of factors to consider. After interviewing multiple attorneys, I decided to retain the services of Jesse Baez with the law firm of Brooks and Baez. I selected Jesse because of his legal knowledge, experience, and because I felt he would customize his approach for my situation in accordance with my comfort level. At my request and with his support, he allowed me to attempt to work with my former spouse directly to come to an agreement outside of court and with minimal attorney involvement. Jesse helped me to put together a proposal to present to my Ex that protected me legally and didn’t jeopardize me and my case if we ended up going to court. When my attempt did not work, Jesse jumped into action. He advised me on the next steps to take and explained to me in detail the possible paths that my case could take. She too went to bat on my behalf. She has a sign in her office that says, when someone gives you lemons, squirt lemon juice in their eyes. I love that! It is indicative of her personality and how she works for her clients. Ultimately, with the help of Jesse and Karen, I ended up settling out of court. Had I gone to court, I would have been well prepared. Jesse made sure of that by finding the right experts to validate and support my case. Thank God we didn’t go to court! However, we were ready! Jesse was able to negotiate a settlement for me. He helped me put in perspective how the deal was in my best interest in lieu of going to court, which presented more risk and could have resulted in me getting less. I came out of this situation with a very good settlement that allowed me to preserve my retirement, my 401K that I have accumulated and continue to accumulate through my 30-year plus career at my place of employment, as well as receive a very equitable split of other assets acquired during my more than 20-year marriage. It was a long haul, but all in all, my overall settlement was very good. Jesse and Karen are still helping me with follow-up items that have come up after my divorce finalized. They both are committed to see my settlement agreement through to it being fully exercised. If you have decided, as I did to start a new life through divorce, or if you are the recipient of a complaint to be divorced, you can’t go wrong with choosing Jesse Baez and his team to represent you.
