Chris Stock, a firm founding member, focuses his litigation practice on complex commercial litigation, including securities and antitrust class actions.

Beyond his legal practice, Chris has worked extensively with both start-up and existing firms to develop and operationalize new business models and/or revenue opportunities.

Chris has successfully collaborated with a variety of partners to develop business plans and structures, deal terms and economic forecasting. He has also provided firms with due diligence assessments, management consulting, and access to capital. For example, Chris pulled together a diverse group of professionals to develop a fully-licensed insurance company aimed at providing a full complement of coverages for hard-to-place risk classes both domestically and internationally. He has also worked with manufacturing, energy, and logistics/distribution firms to create new product silos, or, in some cases, entirely new supply chains.

Chris has also developed an extensive marijuana law and policy practice, consulting with numerous public and private entities on how best to address the myriad challenges and opportunities associated with the burgeoning marijuana industry. Having drafted legislation and several constitutional amendments regarding various aspects of marijuana legalization, Chris has become a leading voice nationally on the interplay between the public health, public safety, and commercial interests surrounding this issue.

DEFINING MOMENT

“As simple as it sounds, I’ve learned that, in many cases, you can create an advantage for your clients simply by outworking the other side. I’m a firm believer in the old adage that ‘good enough isn’t good enough.’ When you pay attention to detail and take pride in your work product, good things tend to happen.”

MOTIVATING FACTOR

“At the risk of sounding cliché, I’m truly humbled by the team we’ve put together at MSD. I appreciate the camaraderie here. I thrive on the daily intellectual challenges. And I’m fiercely proud of the service we provide to our clients. In my view, the real joy in both law and business is finding solutions to seemingly intractable problems – and doing it with a team of professionals you respect and admire.”

CREATING VICTORY

“I have learned that self-doubt is an incredibly important tool for me as a litigator. In its early stages, I spend an extraordinary amount of time questioning the foundational elements of our case. What am I missing? Where are the cracks, and how would I exploit them? Are our assumptions supported by fact? Are our theories supported by law? This process gives me a chance to understand – and even neutralize – an opposing party’s arguments from the beginning.”

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
