Mr. Smith is a founding member of Smith & O'Toole, PLLC. Mr. Smith has been an attorney since November 1998 and is a member of the state bars of both Michigan and Kentucky. Mr. Smith is also admitted in multiple federal district courts throughout the country.

During his nearly twenty years as an attorney, Mr. Smith has gained a great deal of knowledge and practical experience in several diverse areas of law including litigation, real estate, corporate transactions and debtor/creditor matters.

Corporate Transactions - Mr. Smith is an experienced business counselor and creative problem solver with more than 16 years as an attorney, including six years serving as general counsel, corporate executive and business adviser for a group of privately held companies in the Manufacturing, Metals, Plastics, Retail, Aerospace, Automotive and Aftermarket industries. Mr. Smith developed acquisition strategy and served as lead transaction attorney in building a manufacturing conglomerate consisting of forty three distinct entities, spanning seven countries and three continents during the height of the global recession beginning in 2008, resulting in a conglomerate with over Eight Hundred Million Dollars ($800,000,000) in annual gross sales by 2011. Mr. Smith established, developed and nurtured relationships with multiple sources of funding including, but not limited to, equity investors, bank officers and investment bankers. Mr. Smith provided leadership and strategic vision to corporate executives in acquiring entities, financing acquisitions, refinancing ongoing operations and maintaining compliance across a broad spectrum of regulatory agencies, laws and countries.

Real Estate - Mr. Smith has extensive experience in real estate in both Michigan and Kentucky. Mr. Smith has been a guest lecturer for the National Business Institute on foreclosure techniques and has prepared the documentation and closed hundreds of residential transactions. Mr. Smith has prepared and closed large Real Estate funding transactions for several Banks, Trusts and Pension Plans. Mr. Smith provides his vast experience and knowledge to all of his clients from small residential purchases to a large corporate transactions. Mr. Smith is known for his knowledge of the law and ability to find innovative solutions to real estate issues.

Debtor/Creditor - Mr. Smith is well versed in debtor and creditor law issues and has worked for both debtors and creditors for over twenty years. Mr. Smith has extensive knowledge of the protections available to debtors and how to implement debtor protection strategies regarding the defense of collection matters, the development of settlements with creditors, and the execution of forbearance agreements and other accommodations with banks and lenders. Mr. Smith has represented creditor clients in helping them to recoup their money through examinations, garnishments and litigation.

Litigation - Mr. Smith has tried cases in Federal courts, Bankruptcy courts and State courts. He has a reputation for zealously advocating for his clients while being careful not to incur unnecessary costs in seeking a just and fair result for his clients.
