0.5 out of 5 stars

If I could give negative stars I would do so. I trusted I had an attorney that came from a law firm HIGHLY recommended on the western slope. However Mr. Siegesmund does NOT belong in divorce and custody cases. I have spent the last 2 years trying to untangle the agreement he pressured me to sign. He told me a temporary orders, we could change it. Then at final orders just go with it and you can change it later. Well let me tell you that you CAN"T change it later without an act from GOD. I am not a criminal or abuser and my parenting restrictions for visitation are outrageous that I have had 5 other attorneys questions how he let me sign it. To date I have not seen my children in two years despite me having visitation. This is NOT his fault but had we held her in contempt in the beginning stages it wouldn't be like this. He wrote in my agreement a level of difficulty for me to be able to hold her in contempt. This agreement he drafted reads as if he represented the other side. All I heard from him for 9 months is "you don't' know what a judge will say" In the end I found out he is terrified to go to court. He want to mediate everything away. If you are in a high conflict divorce DO NOT USE this man. I am spending 4 times with another lawyer to un-do what Mr. Siegesmund did and I am not even close to finished. He is a waste of time and money and quite frankly he is in the wrong field period. He should be doing real estate law or something where he can't affect someone's relationships for a lifetime due to his negligence.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
