On my recent visit to Columbus for the Arnold Expo (I am from northern Ohio), I reached out to Mark Herder for a telephone consultation concerning some sudden bankruptcy issues stemming from my recent divorce matters. He was very professional and knowledgeable on the issues that I brought to his attention. I have worked for criminal attorneys and have used other attorneys at times in life. I was extremely impressed with Mr. Herder's willingness to spend one hour, free of charge, on the telephone with me -- even though I live in a different federal district of Ohio. This type of attention to details is extremely rare in todays world. He addressed real estate, tax, credit card, personal loan and even my personal injury matters. Would 100% recommend his services to anyone who is looking for a truly exceptional individual and true master of his craft.

I have used Mr. Herders services previously to file a bankruptcy and my case was handled professionally. Recently I had to contact them for some information on my old case and he was very helpful and provided the information I needed quickly. The issue involved a mortgage that was thankfully removed 10 years ago. He looked up the records and his office did the job perfect. He remembered me and actually answered the phone too. He has the same high energy in the past. Does he ever sleep? He also explained that I could not accomplish the result now. I timed the bankruptcy just right. Thank you Mr. Herder for all of your help. I recommend the law office to anyone looking to file a bankruptcy!

I knew Mark from his involvement with the Ohio State football saturdays at Ohio Stadium. I since when on to compete professionally and am now a team scout and coordinator. I was in financial distress, and it is difficult to think clearly and make good decisions . That, in addition to not understanding a legal process complicates matters even more. When I first contacted him, Mark explained the law, outlined in clear language the steps in the process that needed to be done. He was knowledgable as well. I was served on Christmas Eve with a summons for another matter and I did not seriously expect a return call from the office until Monday. Mark called me back on Christmas Day. This is remarkable in todays world. He is also a busy piano player during the holiday seasons, but he still called me and shared his time with me. I am most impressed with this type of work ethic. Thank you again, and Merry Christmas to Mark!

I lost my full time job due to the current COVId 19 pandemic. I contacted Mark Herder to help me in my finanicial need and thank him for his guidance during this crisis. He explained to me that I could really wait to file a bankruptcy case, and I thank him again for his honesty. Even though he is insanely busy during this crisis, on a Saturday, he appreciated the seriousness of this situation, and he called me back. We hope and pray that this terrible situation will end soon so all of us can get back to life as we knew it. Mark, please take care of yourselve and the families that you represent in bankruptcy cases. May God Bless.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
