0.5 out of 5 stars

Janet Boyd is the worst attorney I have ever had. She was appointed to me by the state. I highly recommend finding anyone else. She knows nothing about child custody law and probably hasn't even looked at any of my case files. In my opinion do yourself a favor and not use Janet Boyd.

Janet assisted me in getting custody of my son. She was very communicative and between her and Kym, I felt like I always had someone to discuss anything that was going on the entire time. They, as a team, show genuine empathy and compassion and made me feel comfortable discussing with them anything that I needed to during the process, providing insight and advice in many different occasions. I plan on utilizing this all star team in my upcoming child support hearing. I can't thank Janet enough for what she was able to do for me.

If I could give a zero I would! Stay away from this attorney! Numerous unanswered emails and phone calls, 4 days before court I was asked by the attorney, "why are we going to court," I was charged for late filing fees when she had the documents over 6 weeks, I was charged for subpoena fees/service fees and the witness was not used last minute, she made repeated request for the same information, etc. IF you want an attorney that is invested in your case and the outcome choose another attorney!

I am pleased with the outcome of my case. The process took a little longer due to the covid-19. However, I got the desired results (divorce, property settlement, name change).

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
