Verified ClientHired Law firm 2020I came to Theresa Copeland with questions on how to begin my divorce and she was very quick to help me understand how the process worked. She has been very informative and helpful during the process; never letting me feel like I am doing this alone. She is prompt at returning my calls, text messages, and emails. She has been very understandable and sympathetic towards my situation and for this I am truly grateful. I highly recommend her for your family law needs.

Hired Law firm 2017-2020Theresa handled what began as Protection Order, three years ago. Since, we have modified custody, been to mediation, and shown up to court on a couple of occasions, ready for trial. In the end, we were able to keep my child safe, and get an agreed final order, that I feel is in my sons best interest at this time. Thru it all Theresa was supportive and knowledgeable. She knew when to tell me to relax and when to listen to me like a therapist would. I think she would probably agree that my ex husband is one of the most difficult people she encountered in her entire law career, but she handled him and his attorney well. Theresa is reliable and understanding. Theresa appears to have a good working relationship with everyone we encountered throughout our three and a half year journey together. I felt like Theresa was reasonably priced and very skilled and knowledgeable with family law. I hope to never step foot in another Texas courtroom, but if I had to, I would make sure to have her representing me. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a great attorney with a very kind heart.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
