my niece has four criminal cases pending against her in Humboldt County, including one felony case involving criminal threats and three misdemeanor , including one felony case involving criminal threats, and three misdemeanors ones involving charges of violation of a court order, and Unlawful Taking/Distributing Lewd Material. Mark was accessible and willing to help. He met with my niece at the Humboldt County Jail and after that met with my nephew because he was also very familiar with the facts of the cases. Mark then followed up a couple of days later, explaining his plan and how he could help resolve all of these cases so that my niece can move on with her life. She is in custody and we want her released so she can return to her full-time work as a bookkeeper in the Eureka area . So,far, we are very pleased with how Mark has communicated with us and my niece about this cases

Thank for you for your detailed review and feedback. I will ensure that I represent your niece in the best way that I know how. Such felony cases are often emotionally charged, but I will continue to make the required efforts to fight for your niece's rights.

After I was arrested for misdemeanor Domestic Violence in Santa Clara County, I hired Marc Pelta because I’m not a U.S. citizen yet, and I’m really worried about what a conviction could mean for my immigration status. My wife and I have children and stable jobs, and I don’t want to be deported or have anything happen that could affect my ability to stay here with my family. Marc was able to persuade the District Attorney to consider allowing me to get a dismissal if I can present a good mental health diversion plan. I really like that approach, and my wife does too. I feel like it gives me an opportunity to work on myself while also avoiding a criminal conviction that could seriously hurt me when it comes to my immigration status.

Thank you, Allan. I appreciate the challenge of navigation one's immigration status when dealing with a criminal case. I look forward towards getting this resolved on terms favorable to you.

I hired Marc to represent me in a DUI near Los Angeles. The initial offer required 5 days jail. It was a conservative county, too and dealing with them was not easy. Marc had it reduced to zero days. I am pleased with this outcome.

Your review is very much appreciated. Unfortunately, people from all walks of life get DUIs from rich to poor and everything in between. The outcome was a good one for you because it met your needs which is what I always prioritize for a client.

There was an ongoing dispute between us (my spouse and me) and a family member and their partner regarding a building we purchased as tenants in common in San Francisco. Unfortunately, to gain leverage in the dispute, my family member filed a Domestic Violence Restraining Order against me. Marc reviewed all our evidence with us and informed us that one option was to file restraining orders against my family member and their partner, which we did given their long history of abusive behavior. We secured temporary restraining orders against them to protect ourselves and our animals. My family member has an aggressive attorney, but Marc has protected us every step of the way, including by guiding us in making police reports because my family member and their partner have violated the TROs several times. Marc proved to be a great listener and advocate for us, and he was always one call away.

Firm Information

Overview

Pelta Law was established by former prosecutor and veteran criminal defense attorney Marc Pelta to use his past training & experience as a prosecutor with the DA combined with his more than a decade of criminal (& juvenile) defense experience to champion the rights of his clients even in Restraining Order cases.

Marc uses his specialized knowledge and skill to fight for clients in criminal and restraining order cases that include:

  • DUI
  • Domestic Violence
  • All Misdemeanors
  • All Felonies
  • Civil Harassment
  • Restraining Orders
  • Elder Abuse
  • Professional Licensing Board Investigations

Marc is a tough litigator with extensive trial experience should a case need that option, whereas most lawyers do not offer that. This sharply differs from the approach of many attorneys who often encourage clients to agree to unfavorable deals or settlements in order to avoid going to trial or just to end the case sooner and move on to the next client's case.

Marc analyzes each client's case with a sharp eye while keeping in mind what the prosecutor's perspective may be in order to get the best possible deal for the client or the best possible victory from fighting the case in court in front of a judge.

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
