Consulted Law firm 2023-2024My husband had an ongoing child custody case with his ex that was just settled at the end of July. The judge appointed Heather Moore as the GAL. Mediation was scheduled but the judge did not order the GAL to attend. The GAL did attend, however, and as a result we were charged a large amount in fees. We were never told about these fees. These fees were not discussed prior with us, which seemed odd. Transparency in fees is a must in legal matters. As I was calling to get an explanation of fees and a couple other things, Heather?s paralegal got on the phone and became extremely unprofessional. Combative. She claimed the judge DID order Heather to attend and that in fact in South Carolina it?s also mandatory that they attend. Which is not the case. Her being unprofessional is not our biggest area of concern. What?s most concerning is that she nonchalantly told me that we should pay the fees that the defendant in the case was ordered to pay (and did not) along with our own fees just to speed up the process in the signed agreement being submitted to the judge. What kind of paralegal tells someone that they should just go ahead and pay fees owed by another party to speed along the process? It?s not hard to understand why this firm has such low ratings and so many negative reviews.

Hired Law firm 2024-2025Do not go to Victoria whatsoever she has no idea what she is doing. She falsified documents. Request that you lied to doctors for the insurance adjusters. She will send you wrong information in regards to car accidents she tells you wrong injury dates She will yell at you by text message and then have to apologize. This was the worst experience I’ve ever had. And that they will be reported to the state bar

Hired Law firm 2021-2022Not long ago, I traveled to Myrtle Beach for a vacation. Unfortunately I found myself needing legal representation. Upon asking two police officers at two different times, if they were in my situation, who would they call, both without hesitation stated Axelrod & associates. Upon meeting with their staff for a consultation, I found they were attentive to my needs and concerns and appeared very knowledgeable about the law. I hired the firm to represent me, and within a month, they had my charge dismissed without me even having to travel back to SC for any court dates. I highly recommend this firm as they were very attentive to my needs, answered questions, phone calls, and emails in a timely manner, and seemed genuinely concerned with my defense and didn't treat me like a dollar sign, unlike so many other attorneys do. I heard many people say...."Went to myrtle Beach for a vacation, and left on probation". No probation for me. Axelrod & associates worked diligently to make sure that was not the case. Highly recommended!!

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
