Hired Attorney 2016-2017Complaint Description: to file SSD appeal At an estate meeting with a family member, Anthony Bradley solicited handling the filing of my Social Security Disability appeal. I had already been denied once - on my own - prior to meeting with Mr. Bradley to file my appeal. I personally met with Anthony Bradley on 2/10/16 and signed his contracts in order to file my appeal. Sitting in his office, with my parents, one of his associates said, "I put it in the system." On several phone calls made during the next year and a half, I was repeatedly told by his associates "your case is in progress. The process is slow." On 05/04/17, I called to request the status of my appeal. I received an email stating that Tracy is no longer handling my case that Christy Bradley his wife was now handling my case. I emailed Christy. Christy's email reply stated that I could contact SS for an update. I left a message for Christy Bradley to call me. Christy returned my call stating, "I am not familiar with you and I don't have your file in front of me." She then said again, "You can contact SS yourself. You will just have to wait a long time." So, I did. Per Social Security, THE APPEAL WAS NEVER FILED. THE CASE WAS CLOSED. I then advised Mr. Bradley's office that my appeal was never filed. I was contacted by yet another associate of Mr. Bradley's, Benita Anderson, and was told "the error would be fixed." Knowing that there are allowances for not filing timely appeals, I agreed to "fixing the error." However, unbeknownst to me, and unauthorized by me, my case was re-filed as brand new case, thus starting the entire process all over. Despite many requests and messages left to speak to Mr. Bradley since May 4, 2017, I have yet to receive a phone call from Mr. Bradley. I have repeatedly asked for a copy of the contract I signed with him on 02/10/16 and have yet to receive a copy. I repeatedly asked for months for a copy of my medical records. I finally received an email from Mr Bradley stating I can pick up my records and "bring cash or a money order for payment." And quote, "This will be the last contact I will have with you." Still no copy of the contract. No phone call to me. No apologies. No instructions were given to me in order to proceed without him. Mr. Bradley has never contacted me despite the numerous messages I left for him. Mr. Bradley and his associates lied to me and misled me, then tried to charge me for doing absolutely nothing. Please do not see him for disability needs as he and his associates failed to file my appeal causing me to almost lose the last date to file. In my experience, you cannot trust Anthony Bradley or his firm. To my detriment only, I assumed he was doing his contracted job to file my appeal. Is this considered malprictice, Mr. Anthony? You failed to file my appeal. You failed me.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
