A glance at Mr. Phelps' reviews quickly show an attorney whose clientele are impressed by his experience, knowledge, ability and integrity. In a matter of hours, Mr. Phelps discovered valuable information about my son, contacted him while being held and advised him on best action. Attorney Shane Phelps then immediately contacted his fiance providing reassuring news and legal fact. My wife and I also received summary call and better understand this very complicated case. We are relieved. Mr. Phelps commands respect. My son thinks his noticeable improvement in treatment is because Mr. Phelps entered legal aspect. A man of his word: Shane Phelps has accomplished everything he told us he would do. He worked after hours. His integrity is undeniable. It is obvious Mr. Phelps knows what he is doing and is passionate about his work. He has our admiration and gratitude and we feel fortunate to have found him.

In a world full of challenges aimed directly at our youth or young adults, I have never met a man so determined to ensure they have a successful life beyond their mistakes. My husband and I are great parents, yet our children still make mistakes and are up against a legal system not designed to truly help them. Shane Phelps is the light in all the dark of legal ups and downs. He is determined, honest, diligent, and relentless at protecting his clients. In my son's MTR case, it literally took him less than 30 days to listen, investigate, argue, and propose to the judge to get it dismissed. Being very compassionate is a non-negotiable attribute for us and he demonstrates this in and out of the courtroom. His office staff is no different and I cannot thank him enough for not only saving our daughter and son, but our entire family as well. You are making a mistake if you meet with anyone else. Do yourself a huge favor and sleep well with putting your faith in him.

Going through this process has been one of the more difficult experiences of my life. My lawsuit felt overwhelming, unfair, and like I was under attack. It's difficult to express the sense of foreboding and helplessness I felt facing various court dates and timelines. Shane changed all of that for me. Shane is clearly competent in what he does. Beyond that he is also diligent, thorough, and clever. Watching his team work gave me hope through this ordeal. He listened and understood the facts of my case. He helped explain my legal options in a way that was clear and comprehensive. And in the end, the outcome we chose was my decision and I am happy to have this entire thing behind me. I wholeheartedly recommend Shane Phelps. His experience, knowledge, and caring is exactly what I needed. I am extremely grateful to the entire team at The Law Office of Shane Phelps, P.C. for their kindness and attention throughout this process. Thank you again.

From the first moment I spoke to Shane on the phone I knew I had selected the right attorney. Shane and his office kept us up to date every step of the way and provided the reassurances I needed as a parent that everything would be alright. His experience as a prosecutor and knowledge of the 'other side' was invaluable to my peace of mind. I would not hesitate to recommend Shane and his team to anyone.

Attorney Information

Overview

Shane Phelps is regarded by many to be one of the best trial attorneys in Central Texas. In his 26-year legal career, he has tried more than 100 jury trials, including misdemeanors, felonies, white collar crimes, public corruption cases, murder and capital murder. He is well-known for his meticulous preparation, legal research skills, and courtroom ability. For ten years, Shane served as the First Assistant District Attorney in one of the most effective and successful prosecution offices in Texas. After leaving the DA's office, Shane entered private practice concentrating exclusively in Criminal Defense work.

A former United States Marine, Shane graduated from two of the finest universities in the country, Rice University in Houston, Texas (B.A. English, 1983) and The University of Texas School of Law in Austin, Texas (J.D., 1987). Since graduating from law school, Shane has served as an assistant district attorney in Houston, as chief special prosecutor for the Texas Office of the Attorney General, and was appointed Deputy Attorney General for Criminal Justice in 1999 by John Cornyn.

Having tried numerous high profile cases over the years, Shane has been featured on Dateline NBC, NPR, and on the covers of the Texas Lawyer and Austin Chronicle magazines, as well as scores of newspapers across Texas.

Shane has been board certified in criminal law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 1992. Becoming board certified is a rigorous process that requires years of experience in trial and appellate work, the recommendations of attorneys and judges, and a six-hour exam in the specialty sought. Only a small percentage of attorneys in Texas are board certified. Shane is also a member of the College of the State Bar, an elite legal fraternity that recognizes attorneys who exceed the minimum requirements for continuing legal education each year.

Because of his expertise in the law, Shane has been called upon repeatedly to lecture on trial advocacy, search and seizure law, white collar crime, ethics, the death penalty, and public corruption to prosecutors, peace officers, police cadets, and community groups across Texas. Shane was twice the course director for the Texas District and County Attorneys Association's Advanced Trial Advocacy Course, where experienced prosecutors studied a case scenario based on a murder case Shane successfully tried. He has also published articles on the death penalty, public corruption, and environmental law.

Shane has argued cases before several Texas Courts of Appeal and the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, the highest criminal court in Texas.
