My boyfriend has been in jail for over a year and Sindhu has been his court appointed attorney. My boyfriend didn’t hear a single word from her until a year of being there . I called her multiple times and she has been rude to every single family member , refusing to give any information and she even lied and said she scheduled a video visit with him when she didn’t . I understand she has multiple people calling her every day and that we are not paying her out of pocket, but as an attorney , her sole purpose is to FIGHT for you . She told my boyfriend she hasn’t even bothered asking for a bond reduction because she knows they will say no. She doesn’t even bother to ASK! She loses nothing by asking. I also understand my boyfriend has a record, but being in jail has helped him transform into a better human. With sober thoughts , clear thoughts , bringing himself closer to God. I believe he deserves his freedom, or at the very least, someone TRYING to give him the best deal possible. Simply because we don’t pay out of pocket, doesn’t make my boyfriend any less of a human, wishing to live a better life than the one he left behind. It upsets me that she is rude and heartless, simply because money isn’t involved. If you’re going to be a lawyer, it’s because you believe in fighting for the people. There is a law that applies to every single one of us, and that is, to do the right thing as human beings. So please have some humanity in you, and treat people as human beings. I’m not sure how the world has been treating you, but clearly you have lost connection to your humanity and everything that it brings.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
