I had been seeking an fiduciary litigator for a couple of months, with no success. When I finally found Kevin, he contacted me back promptly. He was also able to review the material I sent to him on a timely basis. We he called back, the news was bad, but he was the first to figure out from reading my documents that I did not have a winning case against an institutional Trustee for violating the prudent investor standard. Multiple smart people have previously reviewed these documents, but all missed the crucial point. Without Kevin, I might have wasted a lot of time, had a lot of heartache, and lost a lot more money. And all he asked for in return was this commentary, a price I am very willing to pay. Thank you, Kevin.

I was recommended to Mr. Spencer to help me make a very difficult decision regarding the probate of my Father's will. I had may concerns that his finances and property had not been totally used for his benefit by other members of my family. Mr. Spencer responded promptly to my call. We spoke candidly regarding my concerns, pros, and cons of going forward with legal. He was professional, knowledgeble, and provided me with research and answers I needed within a timely fashion. I now am positive I made the right decision going forward. Thank you, Mr. Spencer. grateful2u

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
