Jake Spencer - El Paso, TX

Jake Spencer is a founding attorney with Spencer Trial Attorneys, P.C. in El Paso, Texas. His practice focuses on personal injury and criminal defense, where he represents individuals and families facing serious injuries, significant financial losses, and criminal charges. He is licensed to practice in Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona and is admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. A native El Pasoan, Jake earned his B.A. in Government and Humanities from Oral Roberts University in 2013 before attending South Texas College of Law–Houston. His early legal experience included legal research, client communication, and trial preparation in serious criminal cases, giving him firsthand exposure to litigation well before he became an attorney.

Jake earned his J.D. from South Texas College of Law–Houston in 2017, graduating cum laude. He became licensed to practice law in Texas in 2018 and later obtained admission to practice in New Mexico and Arizona in 2024.

Today, Jake concentrates his practice on personal injury and criminal defense. In his personal-injury practice, he represents people injured through the wrongful conduct of others and works to develop the evidence necessary to explain both how an injury occurred and how it has affected his client’s life. Jake’s professional background also includes service as a mitigation specialist in multiple state and federal capital cases. Through that work, he has participated in multidisciplinary defense teams, conducted extensive life-history investigations, interviewed witnesses, analyzed complex records, prepared mitigation materials, and assisted in developing case strategy. That experience has strengthened the investigative and analytical approach he brings to both personal-injury and criminal-defense matters.

Jake has also been selected to teach and present to other legal professionals. In 2025, he served as a panelist and presenter for Fundamentals of Federal Capital Defense, presented through the Federal Death Penalty Resource Counsel Project in the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, Defender Services Office, in Portland, Oregon. In 2023, he presented “Working with the Client” at a Case Consultation Conference for the same project in Atlanta, Georgia. He also presented “Cybersecurity: What Every Legal Professional Should Know” to the El Paso Association of Legal Professionals in 2023.

Jake has received professional recognition for his personal-injury work, including the 2025 Lawyer of the Year for Personal Injury Law from the American Institute of Legal Professionals.
