Hired Attorney 2016-2017He accepted our money ($350.00 per hr x 14 hrs). Three (3) days prior to date of trial in Tarrant County District Court, Oct. 09, 2017, Mr. Hampton informed me that he is withdrawing from the case and that I should hire another attorney. I was awestruck at that announcement and asked for an explanation. He told me: "You said that you did not want to spend any more money". I absolutely did not ever, at any time, make such a statement. I always paid for his services, upon receipt of his billing state-ments: initial fee $200.00 12/28/2016; Retainer $2,500.00 1/05/2017; Final billing $1,882.33 8/30/2017. On such short notice, prior to the trial date, I was not able to secure the services of another attorney. Since I had no legal representation to appear before the Court, I had no recourse but to withdraw from the case. Mr. Hampton left me "holding the bag" on this one; home free with his fees totalling $4,582.33. I would NOT recommend Mr. Hampton or his Associate to represent me in any situation requiring legal representation. The wife and I had engaged Mr. Hampton to represent us in an auto repair scam. At the outset he stated that he was familiar with the "dealership", stating that he was familiar with the dealership and that they were "not reliable", and that he was pleased to represent us in our case which he would bring before the Tarrant County Probate Court.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
