I had the opportunity to work with Ashley on my divorce and child custody case. I am a military member who was requesting custody of my two small children and my ex-spouse, who was physically and sexually abusive, was requesting money. I let Ashley know everything during our initial consultation and she came off as understanding and determined to get me out of the situation quickly. I sent in my retainer and couldn’t wait for it to be over within three months like she said. Once she had the retainer, I filled out every form sent my way and returned it the same day only to be met with silence. For months nothing happened so I emailed and called Mrs. Iovine to ensure my documents were received, in return I’d get a sloppy email saying they were received and a monthly billing statement for thousands in services that I didn’t understand and because there was no communication, I didn’t know why they were necessary or how they were moving the case along. Eight months after receiving my retainer and knowing I was dealing with an abusive and manipulative ex, Ashley still only scheduled me for a four-hour mediation session. Right up front I was told by her and the mediator that if I didn’t figure things out in the four hours I’d have to wait months for another session and pay a second mediation fee. Under pressure I ended up agreeing to things I would not have agreed to if I had more time, and with Ashley’s advice my abusive ex-husband received thousands of dollars that I didn’t have. Even after the session my ex did whatever he wanted and when I’d bring something up to Ashley she’d send a quick “there’s nothing I can do” email and charge me. I even sent her legal documents where he was found guilty of domestic violence and they did not elicit a single action on her part. More than six months after mediation I contacted an attorney friend who told me that I had been legally divorced for over a month. When he got me a copy of the filed documents I saw that Ashley had not made the agreed upon changes and that her lack of attention to detail had allowed my ex to receive thousands more than originally stated. I started sending out emails about my experience with Ashley which led to her calling me, this was only our third call in over a year. First she tried to blame me, but eventually she was apologetic and said she’d get everything fixed at no extra cost to me. It took another month to get things corrected, she let me know when that happened and that she would send me certified copies of the documents so that I could update all my legal and military records. It has been well over a month since that communication, I’ve emailed her asking for an update with no response, I am once again in limbo due to her inability to follow through and communicate even on the most minor of tasks. This process was made much more stressful than necessary. I had to fight my ex, fight for Ashley’s help and fight the constant erroneous legal billing. I was double charged time after time, this was hundreds and thousands of dollars. I definitely would not recommend retaining Ashley Iovine if you are looking for an attorney who is competent, communicates well and genuinely cares, you would definitely not be getting those traits with her but she’ll charge you like you are.
