Hired Attorney 2025Sadly the practice of being amicable and baiting clients to then provide no service is still happening. We were going through a difficult time without our parent's death and needed private lawyer. He explained some of the process and convinced us he was competent then disappeared. Seems after six years from this original rescue he is still doing the same. Be warned.

Hired Attorney 2018On a personal level Mr. Gonzalez is very amicable. On a business level however I must state the office is extremely unprofessional. Spending several thousands of dollars with this CPA/Attorney in the past, I developed a loyalty to cater his services on another legal matter. The bottom line - over 3 months with no service, no replies, no emails, etc. After a few attempts to engage contact, I (the customer) was informed that I had not held my end of the agreement (which I debate as invalid). Long story short, I received a refund LESS his service fees ($350 per hour), costing me close to 2 grand. Now think about this for a minute - spend almost 2 grand - wait almost 4 months - and receive NO service! Ethically, I am very frustrated and saddened by this office. A strong lessons-learned. #1 - NEVER use an attorney based on a referral (without vetting yourself). #2 - always get service costs and labor explained up front. #3 - if you find yourself waiting more than 48 hours without a response - call the attorney/cpa and ask for a refund! Even better, get ready to call the State Attorney Board if you believe you've been had.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
