Attorney Information

Overview

Carrie Thomas is the Managing Attorney at Barbieri Law Firm, where she focuses exclusively on criminal defense and leads the firm’s representation in complex, high-stakes felony cases throughout North Texas, including Collin County and the Dallas–Fort Worth area. She brings extensive courtroom experience and a deep understanding of the criminal justice system to clients facing some of the most serious allegations under Texas and federal law.

Ms. Thomas is particularly known for her specialization in Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) cases—an area of criminal law that requires advanced technical knowledge, careful evidence analysis, and a nuanced understanding of digital investigations. Her experience includes defending cases involving child pornography allegations, online solicitation of a minor, digital exploitation offenses, and related sex crime charges. This focus is informed by years of hands-on experience evaluating complex electronic evidence, forensic reports, and investigative procedures unique to internet-based crimes.

Ms. Thomas began her legal career with a strong foundation in criminal law while attending SMU Dedman School of Law, where she participated in the Criminal Clinic and represented indigent defendants. During law school, she also completed internships with the Texas Fifth Court of Appeals, the 219th District Court, the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office, and the Collin County District Attorney’s Office, gaining early exposure to trial and appellate practice.

After graduating, Ms. Thomas joined the Collin County District Attorney’s Office, where she spent eight years as a prosecutor. She worked across multiple divisions, including Misdemeanor, Felony, Domestic Violence, Crimes Against Children, Child Exploitation, and Grand Jury, and ultimately rose to the position of Chief Felony Prosecutor. In that role, she handled and supervised prosecutions involving serious violent crimes and complex sex offense cases, including those involving minors and digital evidence.

Now in private practice, Ms. Thomas applies her prosecutorial insight to defending individuals accused of crimes, allowing her to evaluate cases from both sides of the courtroom. She represents clients charged with drug offenses, assault and domestic violence, and serious sex crime allegations, with a particular emphasis on ICAC-related cases. Her approach focuses on careful case assessment, strategic planning, and clear communication with clients navigating an overwhelming legal process.

Ms. Thomas has completed advanced training in criminal justice and investigative practices related to crimes against children and digital exploitation. She has participated in specialized conferences and courses addressing internet crimes, child exploitation investigations, domestic violence, and sexual abuse, and she was invited to speak at the Texas District and County Attorneys Association Annual Conference in 2022.

Ms. Thomas earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Wake Forest University and her Juris Doctor from SMU Dedman School of Law, where she graduated with honors. She is licensed to practice law in Texas and is committed to providing informed, diligent advocacy in some of the most sensitive and complex criminal cases.
