Consulted Law firm 2025I received my bill from Bryan fagan law firm inconsistent with what I was told in the cancellation meeting. Eric Engel, the only lawyer I met with and only once said I would not be charged for emails. He said this in front of his own staff yet it was the bulk of the $1800 feet I was charged for what I thought was their advertised free consultation with a lawyer. That free consultation isn’t even indicated anywhere on the bill to which I conclude the one meeting I had with Eric Engel should have been my free consultation and opportunity to decide whether to hire this firm at all. They put the cart before the horse in demanding a contract and retainer before ever talking to one of their lawyers so I could evaluate their firm. Apparently the billing started when I signed the contract and not after the consultation as is typical. He basically lied and their firm demanding hiring before consultation is unethical to say the least. My dispute isn’t with the contract itself but when it became valid. Their website clearly lists a free consultation and I never received it. Since I met with a lawyer one time a reasonable person would believe that was the consultation and my opportunity to decide whether or not to hire the firm. That is the purpose of a consultation, it’s supposed to be a two way street where I would receive some consideration. I’ve dealt with many lawyers and had a past divorce but never had a firm behave in this way

Hired Law firm 2023During my first call with Bryan Fagan he explained how I would be able to file for guardianship of my adult son (if I was able to locate him in Houston) and that I would be able to have control of his receiving treatment for his mental illness. I then learned from doctors in the Houston area that this was not even remotely true so I then stated to the law office not to proceed with any work on the case. In spite of this they continued to charge me for services and deducted the money that I had given them as a retainer even though it shows in their own billing that I had requested them to do nothing with my case. At this point they have charged me over $1,000, rendered no services and my son is still missing and possibly dead.
