Mr. Walters was excellent to work with. He answered every question I had and responded quickly to each e-mail. I would recommend him to friends and family.

I was ambushed with a divorce and a custody battle. I needed a knowledgeable tested lawyer that offered quality and affordability and brought value to my case. I retained Brian Walters to represent me and it was the smartest thing I ever did. Brian was able to guide me through the hardest event in my life with a sense of compassion and focus. As my attorney he reminded me that since there was a child involved it was not just about me or her. Because of the work Brian and his entire staff did on my behalf I was able to work out a mutual agreement that kept our child out of court and resolved our divorce with out a trial and it cost me much less then I had thought it would. Brian and his staff are responsive, professional and 100% on board with what you need to do to move forward in such a difficult time in your life. This is a first class firm that I recommend to my friends and family.

Brian is a very prepared and professional lawyer. He understood the complexity of our case and went about it in a sensitive manner, but also kept to the facts and laws! Brian is very useful with his time. He is excellent at giving you an itemized report of his work and your money spent. He tried to work with the other party to settle out of court. He is very good with keeping the emotions down in the courtroom. I would highly recommend Brian. If we ever need, he will be the first I call again!

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
