Overview
Kevin Haynes is a trial lawyer who represents clients across the nation that have been seriously injured or killed in trucking and bus crashes, onshore and offshore oil rig accidents, and plant, refinery, and pipeline explosions, fires, and chemical releases. From an early age, his parents told him they knew he would be a lawyer because of his devotion to standing up for others and his disdain for people being treated unfairly. Also, having grown up in the industrial Golden Triangle in Southeast Texas, he witnessed firsthand how hardworking people can be devastated by catastrophic injuries. One day after class in high school, his favorite English teacher told him he should pursue a career in law. This encouragement sealed the deal, and from that day forward, he knew he wanted to go to law school and devote his life to fighting injustices.
Throughout his almost 20-year career, Kevin Haynes has consistently recovered successful verdicts and settlements for his clients. In 2011, he helped win the largest motor vehicle accident verdict in the State of Texas, which was selected to the Texas Verdicts Hall of Fame. In 2015, he helped secure the #5 and #8 largest accident settlements in the State of Texas. In 2019, along with his partner, Steve Kherkher, he won a $12,450,000 verdict in a trucking crash case where the plaintiff only incurred about $20,000 in medical expenses.
In August 2022, Jesus Garcia and Kevin Haynes won a $110,000,000 verdict for a young woman injured in an ATV rollover (Lizet Guerra v. Roel Rodriguez, et al., 381st Dist. Ct., Starr County). $90,000,000 of the verdict was comprised of non-economic damages, namely, pain and suffering, mental anguish, and disfigurement. The plaintiff had permanent scarring on her abdomen and breast and suffered from long-term headaches—but had not received any treatment in the three years prior to trial. This is the largest verdict in Starr County history, a venue widely known for large jury verdicts.
In 2024 alone, Kevin recovered $238,500,000 in settlements for his clients. These include, among others, clients injured or whose loved ones were killed in a plant explosion, an oilfield accident, and an 18-wheeler crash.
For law school, Kevin Haynes attended South Texas College of Law Houston, where was chosen as a member of the law review and won an award for his outstanding legal writing. He also won a spot on the school’s nationally recognized moot court team and competed in tournaments nationwide. He began his legal career clerking for Justice Leslie Brock Yates on the Fourteenth Court of Appeals in Houston, where he gained invaluable experience in appellate law.
