Hired Law firm 2020During some of my most difficult times going through a divorce and then a custody battle, Kathy Johnson and her team were extremely professional and patient. I went in not really sure what to expect. Not only did Kathy answer my questions with care and concern, she continued to work with my best interests in mind. I am grateful for the time and effort she and her team spent with me. Their honesty and direction were paramount during my divorce. I recommend this firm to anyone seeking any type of legal help.

Hired Law firm 2008-2021I worked with this law firm in my professional career for roughly 5.5 years. Both attorneys are friendly, easy to work with and have a good understanding of family law as well as being respected amongst other attorneys. When I needed a family lawyer in my personal life, they were my first choice. What I respect about them most is their honesty. You will be told likely outcomes and what to expect, even when it’s not what you might want to hear all the time. I didn’t want a practice that was going to “sugarcoat” or rush my case. In complex matters, a good resolution will take time. So if you’re looking for an honest practice, with good down to earth attorneys who have been practicing law for a long time, who are respected, and who have strong roots in the community, I highly recommend using this firm.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
