Overview
Founder & Managing Attorney
R.J. Holladay is the managing attorney and founder of Holladay Law, based in Spring, Texas. With more than 20 years of legal experience, Mr. Holladay concentrates his practice exclusively on personal injury litigation, representing individuals and families who have suffered serious and catastrophic injuries through no fault of their own. He serves clients throughout Houston, Spring, Tomball, and The Woodlands, Texas.
Mr. Holladay was raised in a small town in Oklahoma, where he learned early the value of hard work, accountability, and personal responsibility. Those principles shaped his decision to serve nearly a decade in the United States Navy, where he developed the discipline, structure, and sense of duty that continue to define his professional approach today.
After completing his military service, Mr. Holladay put himself through college and law school, earning his degrees through determination and persistence rather than privilege or shortcuts. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Houston Law Center, where he was inducted into the Order of the Barristers, and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of North Texas, graduating magna cum laude.
Mr. Holladay began his legal career representing insurance companies and corporate defendants, gaining firsthand insight into how injury claims are evaluated, defended, and delayed. That experience now informs every case he handles. He understands the strategies insurers use to minimize exposure and structures cases from the outset to counter those tactics through disciplined preparation and trial-ready advocacy.
From 2005 to 2011, Mr. Holladay practiced as an associate attorney with Rathwell DeFord & Nizialek, where he developed a strong foundation in litigation and case strategy. Over the course of his career, he has obtained successful results in a wide range of cases, including wrongful death and other matters involving catastrophic injury. He is known for his thorough preparation, direct client communication, and willingness to pursue litigation when insurance companies refuse to act reasonably.
Mr. Holladay’s work has been recognized nationally. In 2019, Attorney & Practice Magazine named him a Top 10 Personal Injury Attorney. That same year, he was selected as Litigator of the Year by the American Institute of Trial Lawyers. In 2020, he received the Elite Advocate designation from the American Institute of Legal Advocates and has since been recognized for Excellence in Personal Injury Law for four consecutive years.
He is an active member of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association and the State Bar of Texas. Mr. Holladay is licensed to practice before all Texas state courts, as well as the United States District Courts for the Southern and Northern Districts of Texas.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
