Hired Law firm 2025-2026Darin Featherstone was very responsive and gave clear, practical advice throughout my divorce. Before our scheduled mediation, he took the time to review my financial information so I had the opportunity to present a settlement proposal ahead of time. That preparation helped move the process forward and made a stressful situation much easier to navigate. I appreciated his professionalism and would recommend him to anyone needing a knowledgeable family law attorney.

Hired Law firm 2024-2025Darin was very responsive. I had several questions throughout the legal process and he not only responded in a timely manner he also walked me through things I needed to do on my end. My ex and I were able to come to an agreement in mediation. He was very helpful in proposing offers during mediation to ensure we did not need to go to court. He also gave me information on what a judge would typical do in the case of litigating to court. I was recommended him by a friend and have already recommended him to an inquiring friends as well. I was very happy with working with him!

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
