I called William last summer after I was terminated by my place of employment after many years. Right from the first phone call, William was caring, compassionate and honest. I had never been involved in any sort of legal issue and was apprehensive and anxious about pursuing any form of lawsuit. After talking with him, I felt reassured and confident that I was making the right decision and hired him. He was amazing, from the beginning to end, keeping me informed, being realistic about our options and all the while keeping things light and as stress free as possible. He is professional, dedicated and thorough. In the end, he helped me achieve what we had set out to do. I would recommend him to anyone.

William handled my divorce case in 2019. He was very professional, knowledgeable, and always gave quick and concise email responses. I appreciate William's attention to detail, and his willingness to always check in and explain things in ways I could understand. He is very personable, and has a calm and collected demeanor. If I ever need legal assistance in the future, I will be sure to call William, and I recommend him highly.

Mr. Pettersen helped me obtain much needed closure after being let go from my place of employment. I cannot disclose too many details for the sake of my personal privacy and out of consideration for the company I worked for, but a very fair outcome was achieved thanks to Mr. Pettersen’s help. He was very professional as well as empathetic to my situation throughout the entire process and even offered to help me without receiving compensation.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
