Jonathan L. McGrady began his legal career in 1995 when he joined his father, Joseph H. McGrady’s Law Firm. Joe started McGrady Law in 1974. Jonathan has been the managing partner of McGrady & McGrady, Attorneys at Law, since 1996. During the last 30 years, Joanathan has handled thousands of cases ranging from multimillion dollar personal injury claims, serious criminal cases, and complex divorce and child custody cases. His firm was voted by readers of the local newspaper, The Carroll News, as “Best Attorney Services” in 2026, 2025, and 2024.
Jonathan was appointed by Governor Mark Warner, reappointed by Governor Tim Kaine, and confirmed twice by the Virginia General Assembly to the Commonwealth of Virginia Criminal Justice Services Board (2005-2010). He held the seat representing, Virginia’s Private Criminal Defense Counsel. Jonathan was also named a “VA Rising Star Super Lawyer” as published in the Richmond Magazine Super Lawyer Section. Jonathan is a graduate of America’s Oldest Law School, the College of William and Mary, Marshall-Wythe School Of Law (1995) and America’s tenth oldest college, Hampden-Sydney College (1991).
Jonathan still resides on his family farm in Carroll County, Virginia where his ancestors settled in the area over 230 years ago. His wife Jennifer is a second-grade school teacher and they have three children, Molly, Jon, and Sam. Jonathan is a Shriner, Trustee/Deacon at Hillsville Christian Church, Past President of the Carroll, Grayson, Galax Chamber of Commerce, former Scout Leader, former football coach, and whitewater river guide. He enjoys multiple outdoor sports including skiing, kayaking, scuba diving, hunting, and fishing.
